 Is there a list somewhere of all of the Red Sonja covers (all umpteen variants per issue) along with their cover ratios?

Dynamite - If you're reading this, how about cutting down on the varinat covers? Maybe 2-3 covers per issue total, but PLEASE stop with all of the variant covers! My wallet can't take it anymore!!

Inside the books on the back of the front page you can see the list of all of the different variants for that issue.

I can't speak for Dynamite, but variants will probably decrease or stop again when people stop buying more than one copy of an issue, not the other way around.

It would be interesting to see how many copies Red Sonja would sell if there were no variants.

I don't mind the regular covers but some of these others get pricey very fast. It turns a lot of completists away from collecting the series because of this. I know high grade back issue collectors who are shocked at how much I have to spend on an issue to finish a set of all covers.

Variant covers are the work of the devil... :D

I have to agree I dont like seeing four coveers a moth.

I only get one at random mind you, but I think its unessassary.

Dynamite is starting to be a bigger player, and honestly id like to see this phased out.

Mabey only two covers for an issue. And just make them in equal parts. Half A and Half B covers.

Avatar Press does this too, and it always irks me.

This is a fairly recent practice by Dynamite, only a few issues into them doing this - showing the variant covers. The earlier issues don't have this. But they still don't list what the ratio is.

Oops my mistake, the earlier issues have them towards the end, I see some on the second last page. Look towards the back for the checklist.

I used to get every cover, but after the series went into the teens, the novelty of it wore off. Now, I limit myself to only one.

I love the covers, don't get me wrong...but, I'd rather be able to buy more of other comics, instead of having 4 copies of the same issue.

:)

I'm curious... I'm not a hard-core collector myself, so I'm hoping some of you guys here who do hunt-down all the variants could explain the reasons behind "having to have" all the covers. Is this something done for the joy of collecting things, or is it something which adds great value to a collection? Or is it a combination of factors? :)

I can only speak for myself so here goes. For me, even though I complain about the prices I will eventually end up buying up all the variants. I collect comic books as a hobby, and something to keep me occupied and interested. If I could just go to the local shop and buy every cover & every book, it'd lose the chasing factor. Given moderns don't require much searching, thanks to eBay, but finding the book at the perfect price can be hard sometimes. This is also another reason I've decided to go into looking up parodies of Red Sonja, because there might be so many unknown independant titles that the search is the ultimate fruit. Hope that makes sense. To quote a famous line

'It's about the journey, not the destination.'

Growing up I collected everything books, coins, cards, comics...whenever I started something I had to have all of it...I remember having a paper route where at 10 years old I was making good money. Hockey coins were a big deal and were found in boxes of Jell-O. Each box costs 6 cents ...every "payday" I would take 6.00$ and buy 100 boxes, I completed the set of 200 coins in less than a month. Then traded the rest for a set of Batman cards...

So for me its a compulsion, I probably need help :o ....but it's a challenge and I enjoy the journey.
