Love issue one of the new arc. Love that it is obviously after the TV series ended and the Hand of God episode (if it isn't, it certainly plays as if it were).

Not so happy to see the Galactica get boarded by Cylons two arcs in a row, but what can you do?

The writing is far better and shows more character in the dialogue than the entire first 5 issue arc.

I have a good feeling about this one.

Issue two continues the nice vibe. Though I wish that this trend in comics in general to spread as little written story out over as many pages as possible would cease. I read the entire issue in no time flat. I prefer more densly plotted stories. In fact, most story arcs in comics these days could have been told in single issues back in the day.
I think that by issue 4 of this, it will feel like an hour long episode story. Which is fine. I just hope that the quality can continue on this series. The first 5 issue mini series was dreadful.

#3 was good too. I like this arc better than the first, but have to say that I wish the first one had never happened. Now we have 2 arcs in a row with the same artist where the Cylons boarded Galactica and now 2 arcs in a row where Starbuck gets left behind on a Cylon occupied planet.
Kind of embarassing to have that happen in both storylines, though I know that they are from different writers, it would make outside observers think that the classic BSG is kind of lame and formulaic.

The first series never should have happened. It was totally untrue to Galactica, not only in terms of not remotely being able to fit into the chronology of Saga Of A Star World, but you'd think the writer could have shown some savvy at the end to offer a transitional moment back into the episode.

Apocalypse is better and shows more signs of reflecting proper knowledge of Galactica that the first series showed none of, but it is not without flaws, such as having the characters use the term "gods" which is not accurate. The polytheist world is the world of that other show, not the original Galactica where the religion was monotheist.

I think the religions were pretty much dependent on the colony. Some colonies, I believe (like Caprica) were monotheistic, while others (perhaps the Gemonese) seemed to fall in line with polytheism.

But yes, as far as we know, Capricans were monotheistic.

Still...it does not take away from the story for me. Glad to see a continuation underway.

Besides, how does one explain the titles of such episodes as "Lost Planet of the Gods", and "War of the Gods"?

Well, considering that the working title of LPOTG was "The Tombs Of Kobol" that might suggest that polytheism wasn't on their minds at first. :) Not to mention of course the title of the last and perhaps best episode, "The Hand Of God."

Which, IMHO, shows the diversity of beliefs on the original show.

Lost Planet of the Gods, War of the Gods...and then Hand of God. :)

Perhaps. But Adama, of whom it can be said represents the mainstream of Colonial thought, always used the singular. ;)

Perhaps their definitions of gods (lower case) and God (upper) are different than ours. Adama often said, "May the Lords of Kobol..."

I think, not unlike the Greeks, Romans or Egyptians (where BG's gods are compared to), there are probably many gods who do many things, and one God to rule them all.

In terms of religion though, Galactica's chief influence is Mormonism which is a variant on the Judeo-Christian tradition. The "Lords of Kobol" serve more the role that saints do in the Mormon and Catholic traditions, IMO.
