View Full Version : Creator Credits?

I noticed over on the BSG board that the fans wanted Glen Larson credited as BSG creator, at least for the classic series. Then I realized the Lone Ranger does not credit the creators either. I was looking at my old Topps LR comics, and the first thing on the credits page is "based on characters created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker." Does anyone else thik DE should have a similar statement in the credits? The differences between the radio and TV Lone Ranger and DE's version not-withstanding, the series is still based on the source material from Trendle and Striker, and I think a mention is warranted.

*I would be interested to hear what other Lone Ranger enthusiasts on the forums think on this issue.*

I would whole heartedly agree.
There of course maybe legal or monetary issues at play but why should we not give credit where it is due.

{shrugs} since no one in the world believes Dynamite invented the Lone Ranger, it doesn't interest me much one way or the other except as a formality. (no offense, MadMikeyD)-cindy

...nor, of course, has Dynamite at any stage ever claimed that it had.
I will put the question to Joe, and should have some feedback for you guys shortly! ;)

I agree, it would be nice. But if you're going to credit Trendle and Striker, you have to add James Jewel. He directed the the show at first and was responsible for helping create many aspects of the character. To verify this, please check out the Lone Ranger "Bible" "From Out of the Past: A Pictorial History of the Lone Ranger" by Dave Holland. Also David Rothel's "Who Was That Masked Man?"

None taken. While I won't argue that anyone believes Dynamite created the Lone Ranger, I can tell you that there are some people out there who do believe the Lone Ranger is a 'new' character. The kid at the comic shop who sold me issue #1 had no clue who or what the Lone Ranger was. Agreed, it's really just a formality, but it's something I feel should be done out of respect for the creators and for the long history of the character. Sure, most people don't care who created their favorite comic characters, but there are also quite a few who like to see the creators get the recognition they deserve.

For what its worth i posted a similar question on the Red Sonja board some time ago about Roy Thomas's role in creating Red. Anyway i just think that the creator credit is a nice tradition in he comics industry and a good way to honor the people that created characters that still endure long after they have gone.

If I recall, Roy Thomas has been credited somewhere in the various Sonja offerings. I'll check...
