It's annoying that I have to make cool characters myself because there isn't something better out there, but it kills time so I can't complain too much :]
The body is done but the head is going to take a while to finish because I have to sculpt Jane's awesome hair. I'm not the best sculptor in the world but I'll post her when she's completely done. For now try not to laugh at the copy and pasted head on her shoulders :p

This is just a Warm-up Jane, this is the only figure I had that would look okay as Jane. I'm going to give her the outfit she has in Issue #3 when I find the right base figure for her. (cover on the right)

So anyway, how's she look?

Looks good to me man! How do you make the body of the action figure? Do you use a pre-fab, or do you make it from scratch?

Thanks guys 8-)
I had a Lara Croft figure laying around so I fugured why not mess with her a little? Here's a clearer picture (unedited), as you can see, I have to do a few touch-ups on the jacket (the little beige parts peeking through at the joints). I will definitely post my horrific attempts at sculpting hair ;)
So far all I did to her was:
-Switched her old boots for those black ones
-Switched her old hands for those gloved ones
-Painted the holsters/straps black (they used to be brown)
-Painted the entire body black (it used to be entirely a tan/beige color) then dry-brushed the red so the black would still show (for instant shading!)
I still have to:
-Sculpt the hair
-Find some glasses and bandages for her
-Paint the buckle silver
-Take better pictures, hah

That's cool, I wish I had the time and patience to do those kinds of conversions. Heck, you can even make some good money selling them on eBay and whatnot.
Keep us updated on the progress.

Well, the only way to make lots of money on Ebay with customs is if your name is mentioned on Toyfare (popular toy magazine) or at comic conventions. Otherwise, you'll sell customs for 10 bucks for a few years before anyone decides to spend hundreds on you. Also, once you become well-known, your fellow customizer buddies start hassling you and people start buying your customs not because they are good but because your name is on them  But that's a nasty side of customizing that I shouldn't get into on these boards ;)
I've been making some other customs for a contest I'm entering so I haven't gotten around to finishing Jane's hair, but of course I'll post the work-in-progress pics!

There's a down side to everything in this world I guess...

Yup, everything has its downside... :(
Yikes! Sorry this took so long to update, I got side-tracked by other customs and writing tasks! Luckily I finished sculpting the hair on ol' Jane and I think it looks decent for my first attempt at hair-sculpting! I didn't post WIP pics of it because you couldn't see any detail anyway. All I did was slap some black Sculpey on her head and winged it! But I'll try to describe the process if you'd like...this should be interesting xD
-Layed down a slab of black Sculpey for the basic hair outline (thin black blob all over)
-Smoothed out the slab and shaped the hair-line by trimming-off excess Sculpey with some pointy nail-cleaning thing (let's call them "sculpting tools" :P )
-Made the fringe of hair in the back jagged (stabby, stabby!)
-Made a part in the hair and began making the hair look a little more real by dragging a razor across it (to make "strands"), starting from the part in the hair and going outwards. (slashy, slashy!)
-Then I made the flowing "bangs" seperately and attached them. All they are is a little bit of Sculpey rolled between my fingers then shaped into a point at one end and stuck on to the hair with the other. Then smoothed the edges for a natural transition. (sounds like more work than it is)
I hardened the Sculpey then painted it black. I'm in the process of dry-brushing it with red till it gets to the shade I want. Someone said it looked like the Movie PKJ's hair, maybe I did it subconciously? I've never seen the movie but maybe I saw a picture somewhere, hah. I'll give the hair a more "feathered" look next time, just practicing. Now I need to finish painting the hair, get some glasses, and maybe a bike!
Take a look at the other stuff I have in the works HERE (http://figurerealm.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3525). Also I just finished a nifty new tutorial so browse around the site to see if you can find it!

Have read this thread previously, but I forgot to post it seems. The figure looks great Doc, the hair is alright for a first attempt as well :)

Thanks! I'm in the process of cranking out a Red Sonja figure now, hopefully I'll get her done much sooner. And if anyone has any ideas on what figure or figures to use for a Xena custom, I'm open for suggestions! Where could I get her armor? :p
