View Full Version : What's with the Red Sonja DELAY?!?

Batbob71

They were WAY behind schedule for issue #1 & apparently want to keep that trend going. Where the heck is Issue #2? #3? One More Day 1-shot? If you look at their website it says #2 was SUPPOSED to be available in July. July has come & gone. No books. There's only 1 more ship date for August & nothing is listed on Diamond's shipping list. Why am I not surprised? The one shot was supposed to be out in August along w/ #3 (both arrording to Dynamite's own website). Not only are they intentionally trying to bleed us (the collectors) dry by releasing WAY TOO MANY variant covers, but they also slap us in the face with their failure to deliver in a timely manner. However, they have no problem hyping up issue #6 (when will that be out, 2008?) on their website along with another promised one shot. Please - STOP with the variant cover OVERKILL. From what little has come out, I like the series, but HATE the constant, continued & unexplained delays. Lets get with the program, stop screwing the fan-base w/ 10 different variants, and start releasing in a timely manner. If this continues, regardless of how successful Red Sonja is/becomes/remains, you'll only alienate your customers which will then force you to close your doors like so many other publishers in the past that had a hot book but managed to shoot themselves in the foot. Apparently Dynamite doesn't care about its customers/fanbase.

O.k. guys I do know EXCATLY how you feel! I used to get upset just like you are, but after awhile you realize theres not a whole lot that can be done about it. I love the RED SONJA character, but im not gonna fall into that trap. Order one copy from your comic book dealer and when you finally get it, read it, enjoy it, then through it in the box with your other 1000 comics and forget about it. Maybe im jaded but after having one favorite comic character after another treated badly...... bad story line, awful art, etc.... You get to the point were your like WHATEVER!!!!!

I mean really...who isn't trying to bleed you. That is the American Way if it is not done in the open, rest assured it is still done. ;)
This brings me to another point that I always hear from women. They always say they never pay for sex. I always disagree and proceed to tear them a new one. How can ANYONE say that they have never paid for sex? Whether you are a guy and openly go to a brothel house or sit at a bar for 10 hours chugging drinks waiting for a chance or a woman who goes out and buys tons of beauty products etc.... Trust me...everyone pays for sex one way or another. However love can be free, but you end up paying for it anyways...sheesh!
Anyways had tyo go off there for a second. Still waiting on Red Sonja #2 and #3 and #4 and #5 and #6.

Yeh, I wouldn't bother getting too worked-up about it. It's pretty bloody obvious that whoever it is at Dynamite that's responsible for keeping the comic to a reasonable schedule is simply either incompetent or just doesn't give a sh*t. Nothing any of us might say can have any real impact on that. Anal-retentiveness is apparently par for the course in the publishing game, and we don't really solve that problem by gratifying it with excessive attention. Sure, I might be crapped-off that such a nice comic is beset with problems like this, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over the fact that some fool in a back-office of a publishing company is sitting-around with his thumb in his bum and his mind in neutral and is costing his employer sales revenue. That's their bloody problem, not mine.

As for multiple covers - nobody ever said you had to actually buy them all dude. Some are nice, some not so nice, and others are not worth spending money on. I'll generally snap-up covers by artists like JML and Michael Turner simply because I love their artwork, but at the end of the day I'm buying a comic book to read and look at the wonderful artwork inside the comic itself, not the cover. Mel Rubi's artwork ROCKS, and "Red Sonja" is a really beautiful companion-book to Dark Horse's "Conan", and I'm really looking forward to future issues - which are looking and sounding excellent! I don't think we need bother holding our breath or wailing and gnashing our teeth while waiting for them, though. It's a pity the company can't pull their finger out and stick to a deadline, or at the very least alter their schedule so that potential buyers have a clear idea of when to expect their product, but if market-realities furnish them with a lesson in the costliness of bad customer relations in the meantime then so much the better.

Tommy. :)

At best it gives me time to save up for the next issue...

Loved what I've seen so far - beautiful artwork - as mentioned great companion for the new Conan series. I've gotten over the multiple cover thing & am just selecting my favourite cover for each.

Only dissappointing thing bar everything else mention so far is the story which could best be summed up by... "Everyone knows Red Sonja (duh), everyone wants to kill Red Sonja (why?), Sonja gets away (?more than likely)." Hopefully as more issues arrive the story will fill out.

Until issue 2, best we all take up a hobby ;)

They're only behind schedule 2-3 full months and counting depending on how you look at it. I also pick my favorite cover when presented with multiple choices. I especially look forward to the John Romita Sr. cover. The Conan series from Dark Horse is apparently under a mandatory contract to produce the comic on a monthly schedule. I believed they've used alternate artist for 3 or 4 of the 19 issues out so far. What boggles my mind about Dynamite's Sonja is that they've announced a second one-shot.

Absolutely right mate. Nothing's appeared, yet Dynamite keep posting more and more images of this-or-that cover and synopsis after synopsis about comics which are "gunna" be released (or, if we go by their stated schedule, have been released but which nobody's ever seen), yet nothing ever actually appears. It's a pity really - going by the quality of the first releases it's such a great comic, but the Ivory Tower mentality (to put it politely) of the publisher is providing little incentive for customer goodwill and loyalty. At this stage I wouldn't hold your breath, firefly. It seems to be a case of Publisher's Constipation, but that's easily cured - if they pull their collective head out from up their collective back passage, they should find that things move alot more regularly and we can all finally see the comics that are promised.

They use alternative artists to enable Cary Nord to keep on the main story . If Dynamite have a problem producing the book perhaps they should consider something similar . I wonder if producing all the different covers is causing the delay . Be nice to just be told the reason.

They've probably got just as sick of waiting around as everyone else. Call me cynical, but it's probably more a case of "Meh. It'll get here when it bloody-well gets here...", rather than "Release Imminent!" :)

Dynamite's own website is still stuck in the same old shedule, unfortunately...

:)

Heh! I know I will. I like the comic and want to see it released. Behaviour like this on the part of Dynamite though, whether as the result of ineptitude or stark raving arrogance, cannot help but hurt sales. This may not be immediately noticeable, as to be honest they have no positive benchmark of timeliness against which to measure it, but as in any other marketplace a significant number of potential customers will take their business elsewhere.

Kinda like being at a pub where the service is slow - some people will still wait a long time to be served because they're not fussed, others because they're simply used to bad service and don't know any different, and still others who don't care because they're already tanked. If there's already been a good relationship established with customers they might be prepared to cut the staff a little slack - particularly if it's apparent that the staff are simply flat-out and doing their best to get to them as soon as they can. However, a significant number of people will leave because there are plenty of other pubs and bars selling beer and they see no reason why they should have to wait around at this one - and this number increases further if it's becoming clear that the staff are simply behaving like pricks who treat their customers with disdain and can't be counted on to live-up to the nature of their job.

has anyone tried to contact them via email and show them this forum board?

They would definitely have received emails before now. That dude who kicked this topic off sounded pretty pissed - I'd say there are a few others that would have sent messages to the company in relation to this. In cases of less-than-positive customer relations, most people don't ever bother telling the company - they tell their friends, who are then less likely to spend their money there.

As for the boards - well, if they're not aware of the existence of their own message boards on their own website, one would have to wonder whether the whole thing has after all been an exercise of A Thousand Monkeys At a Thousand Computers. While that's possible, it's probably more likely that they're fully aware of it but are choosing to ignore it. Posting here might mean being asked questions directly, and when companies are stalling or in trouble, they tend to dodge customers, fob-off queries, ignore deadlines, and try to pass blame to suppliers and distributors (ie: it's everyone's fault but their own).

I must admit that it's been kinda fun (in a warped way) reading everyone's response. By the way, I'm the "dude who started this thread." I have emailed "customer service" to make them aware of this posting/thread, but the email link on Dynamite's website goes to Dynamic Forces (?!?). I haven't received a reply & don't expect one. It's nice to see that I'm not alone in being disappointed & frustrated with Dynamite Entertainment. I don't know what the statistics are, but I remember hearing (or reading) somewhere that for every 1 customer that gives feedback, be it positive or negative, there are 50 that share a similar opinion. I just checked Diamond's shipping list (updated 9/12) which includes shipping lists through 9/21 and guess what...? Yep, you guessed it. No Red Sonja listed. It is listed on Dynamite's website as coming out in July. They had 4 shipping dates in July, 5 shipping dates in August, and so far 1 shipping date in September (3 if Diamond's shipping list is accurate) that have come & gone. This makes a total of 10-13 weeks (depending upon how you look at it) behind schedule Dynamite is w/ #2. I don't know what the delay is, what it was/is caused by or have any update to offer. I've tried several times emailing Dynamite to no avail. I do have to agree w/ everyone else that's posted here - I enjoy the series, love the artwork & it seems to be an excellent companion to Dark Horse's Conan series. When #2 finally does come out, I'll buy my 1 or 2 copies just like everyone else here, but I do have to say that they are definately in danger of losing me as a customer, not only on this title, but for anything they might do in the future.
- Bob

Hey Terrorizer - chill out mate. Nobody's said anything out of order here. As for whining and moaning - I know I've given nothing but an objective assessment of the state of affairs as I see it. I'm easygoing enough, as I've pointed out, to wait for the comic until it gets here and I'll be happy when it does. We all will. Of course we've read the press releases, and the reason people have posted here is because they didn't tell us anything. I'll look forward to the press releases which do tell us. If, in the meantime, I choose to speak a few choice words about what I see as a lapse in performance on the part of a retailer, then I'll do so - and this thread, and the response, definitely appears to be a clear-cut case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease.

As for what does-or-does-not help - narky little "nyah nyah - told you so" posts put up after the event smack of a yappy little lap-dog eager to appear on side the moment good news breaks out, and don't help in any way, shape, or form. Not the publisher, not us, not yourself. Maybe I read you wrong here, but that's definitely the tone which comes across in your post. So just relax mate.

I am quite calm...thank you.
I can't remember specifically which press release it was but it had stated that #2 would be late as well and they would try to get back on schedule on or after #3 due to the fact that #2 was a double-issue as well as being a little late to boot.
This is a world of convenience and I don't really mind if the next issue comes out in december as long as it is good and done with quality. Sure some other companies have their shedules down but give them a little slack, they are not forcing you to buy their comics now are they. I went out and bought every issue of #0 and #1, rrp's and everything so I should be griping just as much as the next guy but I know it does no good. I hardly doubt these guys are sittin' around with their thumbs up their you know what. I guess I just don't like comics as much as some of you do who wait on pins and needles. I do know, however, what it is like to really want something and to be baited with worm and hook but you soon learn that anyone that does that probably won't give ya the worm you want but something else instead. Either ways, it still is just a comic book...as I stated earlier. Put more energy into something else more worthwhile. My tone here is calm in case you are wondering.

Thanks for the clarification, Terrorizer. It's good to know you're the calm sort - some people seem to get on boards like this and blow a gasket. I mean, that can't be healthy y'know? No, calm is definitely the way to travel mate. That's a bleak outlook y'got there ("The Bastards Have Ground Me Down - They'll Get You Too! Run!" :D ), but I reckon I can see where you're coming from. Of course we know it's only a comic book...in fact, I'm fairly sure we've all said that. As for the doing of something more worthwhile - given the low amount of traffic on this board I'd say it's a fair guess that we've all been doing that from the word go, and that this has simply been a chance to for a few people to chip-in with their ideas and thoughts, which in this case certainly seems to have paid-off (ie: it's been worth the effort). Thanks for your concern though mate - it looks like your heart's in the right place, and that's what counts eh? :D

More grist for the mill, eh? :D

well you're an intelligent little kid...
Mate, I dispute the assertion that I am at all intelligent. That I might appear so to my detractors merely demonstrates that fools are easily led.

...figure it out on your own...
Well, after all your earlier wailing and gnashing of teeth about "Real Men"(TM) speaking their mind, I would hate to rob you of your manhood by ventriloquising you (no, really - I would).

Oh wait maybe you can't.
Yep. Just you keep telling yourself that, mate.

Sorry
I'm sure of it.

Who's more foolish, the fool or the fool that follows him...folllow along little Tommy...come one...come on...that's it respond to me and be predictable and a true forum philosopher and protector by displaying how easily you can dissect my words and display them in your own contexts...that is remarkable to say the least.

SWALLOW THE BAIT MATE! :D

Who knows maybe someday you'll meet a fermale board member and type the hell out of each other while eating fruity pebbles and watching The Flintstones in your soiled encrusted underwear in your mom's basement :D

Heh heh heh! Watchin' this kid trying to be condescending is like watching a chimp trying to roller-skate! :D

Who's more foolish, the fool or the fool that follows him
No, actually mate it's the one who tries desperately to appear superior by quoting "Star Wars".

...folllow along little Tommy...come one...come on...that's it respond to me
And I'm sure a mouse running in a mouse-wheel likes to think it's the one who's in charge of the whole show too, sometimes.

and be predictable and a true forum philosopher and protector by displaying how easily you can dissect my words and display them in your own contexts...that is remarkable to say the least.
The only thing easily predicted here is that you will continue to keep crying for attention with these little "look at me" posts, much like a child trying to elicit a parental response by soiling its nappy.

SWALLOW THE BAIT MATE!
An invitation to watch a pathetic drama-junkie continually make a fool of himself does not constitute "bait".

Who knows maybe someday you'll meet a fermale board member and type the hell out of each other while eating fruity pebbles and watching The Flintstones in your soiled encrusted underwear in your mom's basement
Terrorizer, you are a sad, sad little man. Phrases such as these speak volumes on the social ineptitude, attention-starvation, baseless egotism and divorce from reality that apparently dog your life. It is your own sense of existence which is borne-out in these ridiculous attempts at insults you post, and your own sense of self-loathing, frustration, and despair which make themselves heard. These words indicate nothing more than the sad efforts of an outcast to live out his dreams of social inclusion vicariously on an internet forum. They earn you our scorn at best, and derision at least.

Spare yourself the continual shame and grow-up.

Thanks Joe. Nice to see you do have some control ;)
Amazing what a little admin power can do...

Now... back to Red Sonja... great to see some schedule plans coming out. Looking forward to the ongoing series & some serious discussions!

Hell yeah let's have some "serious Red Sonja discussions" WooHoo!

What if her hair was actually blonde...would she be called Yellow Sonja?
What if moderators thought they had control over someone but really didn't?
Are you happy it says banned next to my old handle?
It surely taught me a lesson for sure. I mean let's ban the guy and hope he isn't somewhat intelligent and just use a different email address.

Oh and Tommy...I ride my hobby horses with pride...that was pretty damn weak dude....hobby horse? ooh ouch what an insult.

YOU GUYS ARE LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh by the way... :D I'm back

This, after continual tantrums about people having nothing better to do than post on an internet forum. Yours is a sad existence, Terrorizer.

Discussion is apparently beyond you. All we see is frustrated angst.

What if moderators thought they had control over someone but really didn't?
I'm sure they'll get around to it.

Are you happy it says banned next to my old handle?
Of course. "Spicoli" though is not an improvement, though perhaps less of an example of false advertising.

It surely taught me a lesson for sure. I mean let's ban the guy and hope he isn't somewhat intelligent and just use a different email address.
Any illusions we may have had regarding your intelligence or lack thereof disappeared after your first post, little man.

Oh and Tommy...I ride my hobby horses with pride...that was pretty damn weak dude....hobby horse? ooh ouch what an insult.

YOU GUYS ARE LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, mate. "Lame" is a social pariah desperately seeking others' attention by posting endless, pathetic little schoolyard insults on an internet forum as a way of coping with an apparently unhappy adolescence.

Oh by the way...I'm back
Not for long, I trust.
