OK, so after the release of the cover to #2, the cat is out of the bag: LR will be wearing a red shirt in this series (at least in the beginning).

I was kinda hoping for the signature blue shirt. :(

How're your feelings on this matter? -Get voting!

...AAAAAAAND 'Blue Shirt' is in the lead with four votes against none!

I guess DE will have to pull the first couple of issues and have them recolored! :D

:)

Maybe they'll do both, or maybe it's red on the cover but blue in the story.

I'm fine with the red shirt. Looking at the old Lone Ranger movie serials and the first 30-something Dell comics, he originally had a red shirt. So, while I was surprised to see the red shirt, it doesn't matter either way. Red or blue, it's still the Lone Ranger.

I say do both! I mean heck the guy has to change shirts every so often. You know red shirt on monday, blue shirt on tuesday, etc.

If you're serious about taking the Lone Ranger back to his roots, then you've got to go red shirt. Besides, it looks better. I've got both of Ruben Procopio's red shirt and blue shirt statues on display in my living room and I gotta tell ya, the red shirt rocks!

Yep, Red shirt first before we get to the signature blue... patience people, patience!

To give some historical signifigance to the red shirt:

The first Lone Ranger comic book series, published by Dell Comics, started in January 1948. It ran for a total of 145 issues, through July 1962. The Lone Ranger wore the red shirt from issue #1 (Jan-Feb 1948) through issue #36 (Jun 1951). So, even while the TV Ranger was wearing the blue shirt (starting in September 1949), the comic book Ranger still wore red for a couple more years before changing into the blue shirt everyone associates with the character. Here is a picture of the first Lone Ranger #1 cover for reference.

Be that as it may - Blue shirt is still way ahead! :p

Wasn't there a checkered shirt and black vest in the early novelizations and Big little books?

I haven't seen a checkered shirt. I have seen the Ranger with a black vest. I've also seen vintage products with a yellow shirt and the occasional chaps.

The only thing consistent about the look of the Lone Ranger in the early years is the inconsistency of his look. Even Brace Beemer wore many different outfits.

Why stop with red and blue or checkered? Give LR a whole wardrobe! I mean he is independently wealthy right? I could see white as an alternative. Also variants on the shirt styles too. Loath for me to mention this but the shirt from The Legend of the Lone Ranger movie is actualy realy cool!
P.S. Sorry for the nightmares my mention of the Clinton Spilsbury sp? film may have caused. Clayton Moore IS the Lone Ranger as far as I am concerned!

Don't worry about it - I liked the Spilsbury outfit, too.

Although this previous series was not that great, I kind of like this Lone Ranger outfit as well.

Man, I loved the Lansdale take on the Lone Ranger.

As for the shirt, I kind of like the red. I'm thinking of a cavalry shirt that John Wayne wore in a couple of cavalry flicks, the kind with the buttons running down both sides. I always that cossack cavalry red look was pretty nifty, so I vote red.

I haven't followed LR really that much, but when I saw that J.R. Lansdale, the same man who's written some darn great horror stories, not to forget Bubba Ho-Tep, wrote some Lone Ranger stories, I knew I had to get my hands on them. I'm keeping an eye out for the comics on eBay so I can read those stories. They just have to be good.

I say the red just to make it different than his pants. I don't care for it when it looks like he is wearing a jump suit. I don't really care, but if it is blue make his pants black or tan.
