Just how many Green Hornet series are there going to be? I thought there were three, but now there's two Kato titles thrown in, making it five.
Kevin Smith's Green Hornet
Green Hornet: Year One
Green Hornet Strikes
Kevin Smith's Kato
Kato Origins (Year One Kato)

Are any of the series ongoing? I've read that the Kevin Smith is ongoing but I've also heard that it's a miniseries

:confused:I'm not sure about each series but Joe Rybandt told me there were 13 different cover art issues of Kevin Smith's Green Hornet #1.
And I just saw an Exclusive available at Collectors Paradise; a comic store I believe...so maybe it's 14....I'm gonna do my best but does anyone here know of anyone who goes this whole variant route...it's kinda bizarre issuing so many covers and I'm not sure of the reasoning...anyway as I said I'm in for a pound in for a penny.

4 basic covers Ross, Cambell, Cassaday & Segovia. With B&W and Foil or negative versions of each as well as a special foil version of the Ross cover and 2 special version of the Cambell cover. Most are very rare, 1 in 25 up to 1 in 200 on the B&W covers. Good luck to completists.

To the best of my knowledge Smith's GH series is ongoing, as is Kato's core series...

Kevin Smith's Green Hornet is 10 issues. Not saying that Dynamite won't take the character and run with it beyond issue 10, but Smith's story is only 10 issues.

Ghornet2,
Thanks for wishing us "completists" luck...I picked up ten different covers today, then found out there are 5 more in the offing and an exclusive that seems to be exclusive to some or specific LCS.
I should have them all by mid-April and then I hear my family is planning an intervention!
See ya all on TLC!!!

I heard it was eight issues.

I have read in multiple stories posted online that it's an ongoing series and Smith was scheduled to write the first 10 issues, if not more. I wouldn't be suprised if this was an ongoing series should the sales be strong, it would be in the best interest for DE afterall....

My understanding is that the series is starting out as two 10 issues story arcs, so that eludes that the series will be at least 20 issues. However I don't see Kevin Smith writing the series for several years, so its most likely won't be called 'Kevin Smith's Green Hornet' forever.

I don't know exactly, but my proprietor mentioned that their is a title called 'Green Hornet Classic'. I am sure there will be many mini-series as they go! I have a feeling that 'Kevin Smith's Green Hornet' is going to be in a continuity of its own, and not intersected with the other titles.
I would like to propose a new Green Hornet title called 'Green Hornet Generations' based on the Now Comics' rendition.

Love that idea. If Dynamite did release a comic series that continued the Now comics story, I'd definitely would pick that up.

The perfect mix in my opinion would me random series such as "Year One" and "Year Two" and other such years, as well as the Core DE GH series and a few mini's based on Kato. Other than that it's just overkill and the GH name will become saturated.

Agreed. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. At this point, I'm not sure which of the series are minis and which are ongoing. Personally, I think there really only be one ongoing series per a character in general. That way makes it easier for people to keep track of the books as well as the stories. When it comes to minis, however, I think there should be two or three at the most going at a time. Now as far as what i'd like to see in minis, I'm really game for anything. The only thing I'd absolutely want to see, if possible, is one based on the Now continuity; and I say that only because I really liked where the storyline was heading with the characters and would like to see some sort of closure to it since it was ended so abruptly when the company went out of business.

I'd love to see at least a mini or two to wrap up the Now Comics story line. There was supose to be a Black Beauty special and a third Kato series. Ifm they were written and drawn Green Hornet Inc. should have them. I've got the HC of the first Now issues and would like to add others if they are released.

I thought the Black Beauty special was the storyline in which it got destroyed and they replaced it with a new BB that was more retro in look. If not, I'd definitely like to see that as well.

As I remember that happened in the second series. They created a new BB that didn't stand out as much as the one they had been using. Then at some point the old one was destroyed.
As a fan of the series you might get a kick uot the the fact that I had a letter printed in issue 13 (I think). I mentioned that Kato wasn't the only one to drive BB. During the radio show there are numerous times that the Green Hornet tells Kato "you drive" or starts BB. Why would he have to tell Kato to drive or start it if they didn't both drive BB
GreenHornet23

Really, Cool.
Yeah, If I had a car like BB, I'd definitely want to drive it.
I guess it changed later on to Kato only driving because it made more sense as far as there cover went. They always have it in media where the crime lord is always driven around by a chauffer, so it wouldn't make much sense to the other criminals if Hornet drove himself around. At least, that's how I always figured it.

Off topic, my favorite bit from the NOW series was the story of The Hornet's Hatmaker--and the running gag about the current Hornet's hat getting shot up practically every issue.

Actually, that's a running gag with all of the Green Hornets. It's especially highlighted in Sting of the Green Hornet. through out the entire story, his hat was constantly being destroyed or damaged in some manner. Here's the conversation between GH and Kato at the end of the Final issue.
GH - "Well, Kato, I've had my fill of Nazi spies and saboteurs... Not to mention the Bloodthirsty Baroness! I think the Green Hornet and Kato deserve some time off."
Kato - "I'll drink to that!"
GH - "Besides, that was my last hat."

I just started reading Year One and Kevin Smith's GH ... 1 title great, 2 titles cool ... but do we really need all these titles??? What are there like 5 or 6 titles right now??? I mean I love the Green Hornet as much as the next guy, but seriously can the market really support this many titles? I know I can't afford to buy them all! Where is the logic in so many titles? It's over-saturation

While reading comments left after a list of solicitations, someone pointed out that there were 17 Batman-related books coming out that month, if you include all the variations on the character.
So I don't know what to think. One the one hand, there's a precedent for it, and I can see wanting to establish your past, present and future versions ASAP. On the other I agree that it is an awful lot at once. It's at the point of being difficult to remember which books tie in which ones, when do they come out, how long are they scheduled for, etc.
Since most of the books are limited anyway, it may have been better to wait until GHYO was over before starting Kato: Origins. Or maybe Strikes! could have come out only after Kevin Smith's version was done.
But it has to be a little tough for Dynamite to juggle. On the Superpowers board, people are complaining that they want more books than the two going now. On this one, people are complaining that they want fewer. How do you keep everyone happy?

Lets count
KS Green Hornet
Kevin Smith's Kato
Green Hornet Year One
Kato: Way of the Ninja
Green Hornet Strikes
Green Hornet: Parallel Lives
Green Hornet Golden Age Re-Mastered
That's seven titles. Not many compared to Batman (less than half). Personlly I would have waited an extra month on the two Kato series and until the first two Green Hornet series were almost finisted, or until the first story arcs were done (Are they minis?).
Of course with Parallel Lives being tied to the movie, they probably wanted it out before the movie.

You didn't include Kevin Smith's Kato in your list. "Way of the Ninja" is the title of the story Kato: Origins.
I don't buy all the Batman titles and I'm not going to buy all the Green Hornet ones either.

I'm guessing that KSGH will end when the movie would have and that if there is a continuation to that version, it will be in a separate series.
Year one, if i recall correctly, is literally 12 months long. Two six-issue stories.
The only ongoing, I believe, is Green Hornet Strikes.

Batman's popularity is probably second to none and I can see it totallly supporting all those titles. But Green Hornet?? I think they would of been better off concentrating on 1-2 titles at the most. If I was someone who didn't know this character or only knew it marginally, I probably would not pick up these books, mostly because I wouldn't know where to start! Mini-series, maxi-series, on-going titles??? From reading through all the posts here, most of the people here don't seem to know how long the titles they are reading will last, how is anyone else supposed to figure it out? I also think all these variant covers hurt the books as well. Didn't anyone learn anything from the 90's??
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the Green Hornet is back, I just wish he was a little more incognito

Well, we are talking about a difference of 17 (that month) against a maximum of seven (some of the books haven't started yet and shortly after they do, some of others will end).
So they're not pretending that they have the likes of Batman on their hands, I just used Batman as an example of how other companies do it. Maybe Deapool would be a better example because he's nowhere near as established, yet seems to be everywhere all of a sudden.

How I would have done it is I would have put the focus on the main title by Smith and once I hot 12-14 issues and saw some success in the character I would have then put out a Year One series to see how well it did. If it continued to do well then I would have introduced Kato's series around GH #15 or #16, I like the slow approach because it allows you to gage how successfull you are being without the risk of burying yourself all at once.

Perhaps, but the quirk with the Hornet is that most of the series feature a literally different character. GH: Year One and Kato Origins deal with the Radio Hornet & Kato. Smith's GH and Kato deal with the children of the TV Hornet & Kato and GH Strikes is some future version whose connection to the rest of them is still undisclosed. In short, it is not like Batman or Spider-Man appearing in a half dozen titles simultaneously. While they all call themselves Green Hornet they are literally different people at different points in time.
So, in my long-winded way, what I am saying is that waiting to see the fallout from the Smith Hornet would not have done anything for the sales of these other versions because they do not appear to be connected in any way to the Smith version. And thank God for that!:D

I have to agree with both you and Chad. I don't mind the multiple titles too much because they are all based around different GH's, if it was all inter-connecting in the same era then I would be a little reluctant to give it a shot because of over-saturation. But, the average fan probably does not realize that all of these titles are different and don't connect indirectly and they will probably pass it off as a greedy revival by a company who loves to produce multiple variant covers and multiple titles based around one person.
I can see both sides to the multiple titles argument, I just hope the character remains successful for DE because I'm really loving what I'm reading so far.

I know that its easier to promote a Kevin Smith book from a movie script and based in the present than a Matt Wagner book based in the late 30's.
However, I wonder what would have happened if they'd hyped and released Year One first, and only that book in the first month. The reviews for KSGH have been mixed, to be kind, but had all the attention be directed to GHYO instead I think it could have gotten real good buzz as a quality book. Also, there was a point there where it was hard to tell what was what, tied in to what other series, ho wlong and coming out when.
I think I would have held off on Kato Origins until after Year One. It's not as though they complement each other like the two KS books do (or are supposed to).
There was no hurry for Strikes either, that could have come out whenever.
Honestly though, Dynamite has made me a believer. I haven't bought a Marvel book in years and I've lost interest in most of the DC stuff. I'm fed up with Wars and criseseses. Compared to those things, buying even two Hornet-related titles a week is peanuts.
